Simple Carbs Defined


🤷🏻‍♀️Carbs are SO confusing right? I too, need reminders time to time on the difference! I’m going to break them down in a series of posts for a better understanding of this complicated science! I know this will help many of you struggling to understand the difference!

Simple carbs:

•Fewer sugar molecules bound together

•Are digested quickly and move into the bloodstream rapidly causing large spikes in blood sugar that leaves you fatigued when the energy is used up

•Usually are soluble in water and taste sweet

Refined sugars are simple carbohydrates. >>>>THINK>>>>

•white foods>>>🍞 breads, pastas, table sugar🧁, some potatoes, honey, agave


•Sports drinks


Fructose is the biggest offender.

•Table sugar is 50% glucose and 50% fructose.

•Honey is 40% fructose.

•Agave is 70-90% fructose!

Fructose is metabolized by the liver and too much may put a massive strain on the liver and its ability to function optimally.  Fructose is also very hard to use as energy all at once, so excess is converted directly to FAT!!! Yuck!

Unfortunately, overconsumption leads to health risks and complications as we well know. The sugars wreak havoc on their own but add in the empty calories and the inflammatory nature of sugar and we’ve got a MAJOR recipe for disaster.

As the common sayings go...everything in moderation!
